Spiral Elbow – Eliminating Impact Points and Minimizing Energy Loss through Advanced Fluid Design

When conveying powders or gases through pipelines with directional changes, conventional right-angle elbows cause the flow to collide with the “impact point” on the inner wall, leading to abrasion, material damage, and flow deceleration.
The Spiral Elbow applies Bernoulli’s principle and controlled pressure differentials to eliminate these problems at the root.

Principle of Pressure Distribution

  1. Main Flow Path (flow not passing through the Spiral chamber)
    The portion of the flow bypassing the Spiral chamber experiences minimal velocity reduction, maintaining positive pressure higher than atmospheric pressure all the way to the outlet.
  2. Spiral Chamber Side (flow diverted into the chamber)
    The gradually expanding cross-section slows the flow and forms a stable swirling motion.
    This creates a positive pressure relatively higher than that in the main flow path, driving the flow naturally back into the main stream.
  3. Outlet Flow
    As the high-speed main flow merges with the flow from the Spiral chamber, Bernoulli’s principle dictates that the pressure drops into a negative-pressure region, drawing the conveyed material smoothly toward discharge.

Impact-Free Curved Design

Unlike conventional elbows that force abrupt direction changes against the wall, the Spiral Elbow uses pressure gradients and guided swirling flow to curve the stream gently.
This results in:

  • Virtually zero impact abrasion
  • Prevention of particle breakage and coating peeling
  • Stable velocity and blockage prevention
